My theme this summer is make food fun. I love thinking of new ways to enjoy the same old boring snacks like apples, jello, bananas, peanut butter (those posts are to come). My son loves his apples, maybe I sang the song- I like to eat apples and bananas, to much when he was a little baby but boy he can scarf down some apples and bananas. What else does my son love- along with almost every other kid? Chocolate! Do you see where I am going on? Chocolate Coated Apples! Unlike your typcial caramel apples at carinvals and such I sliced the apple first into small rounds and popped them on a stick before dipping them in the chocolate. Its a much easier and better way to serve to kids and more fun- don’t ya think?
Now you can use whatever toppings you wish. Sprinkles and oreos were the winners at my house but with a second chance I might go for chopped nuts and maybe toffee bits for a grown-up feel. Your kids will love to help you out with this food project. My son did might fine with his apples although I did decide to take pictures of mine instead. I hope you don’t mind:) The key to this treat is to slice your apples just right. Not to thin and not to thick and the apple needs to be very firm. The lollipop stick will have a hard time nicely inserting itself into the apple skin if it is too soft. You don’t want a mushy chocolate apple now do you?
HAVE FUN! IT’S SUMMER!
